Across Vistula Lagoon on back-country skis (Poland), 2016

It was a march back and forth on skis across the Vistula Lagoon: Piaski village - Frombork - Piaski village with a total route of 22 km. The air temperature this January day varied in the range from -4 deg. C to +2 deg. C, ice cover was 10 cm to 25 cm thick depending on location. There was a light wind from the west. During the march from Piaski village to Frombork we experienced a thick fog limiting visibility to a few tens of meters. On the way back we were caught by night, it got completely dark and began to thaw - snow was sticking to skis and a thin layer of water appeared on the ice cover. Finally, while we were a few hundred meters from the shoreline, a hovercraft belonging to the Polish coastguard arrived and for a long time illuminated us using spotlights.
